Dragonbane Co-op Campaign
My partner and I have played a few sessions of solo Co-Op Dragonbane. We have been playing the Man Alone Solo adventure Called to the Green. We rolled up some characters and used the adventure, the main rule book and the solo supplement in a the core box to play through it and roll some random encounters. I have played Dragonbane solo before with a Mallard Artisan (blacksmith) for I wanted to try something different. This time I rolled up Wolfkin Hunter and my partner rolled up a Mallard Thief. The adventure is great, it gives you. At threat timer, several roll tables, NPCs and some locations. There are small entries that you can explore in each location that facilitate solo play, asking more questions than providing answers. It was good for someone who already solos, but was interesting when my partner thought it might be a bit more ‘choose your own adventure’ style. I think that is overall representative of the ‘divide’ in style in the solo gaming community.
The Adventures of Quackson and Wuldenhull
In the first session Quackson and Wuldenhull got to the town of Outskirts where there talked to some kids at a well and found that there was a lost child. To find out more, they went off to the dark alley and scarred off a bully found out something was haunting the well. They went to Evelyn’s Tavern to find out more.
In the next session, they found out a kid had died down the well and found out they could get some coin to rid to the town of the evil. Heading down the well, they struggled fighting a giant spider. After pulling through by the skin of their teeth, they found the spirit of the boy was a rotting skeleton. After convincing him to let go and travel to the after life, they went back to the tavern to collect their coin and rewards.
They started travelling through the wilderness in the nest adventure. They found an abandoned town that had been clearly destroyed by trolls. After investigating they fought a Mummy. A lot of back and forth happened in the combat. A valiant fight was fought by Wuldenhull was slain by the undead creature. Quackson took his necklace as a reminder and cremated the body.
Post Thoughts
I was sad that I never go to use the creature skills of the Hunter, having not rolled some up. The fight with the Mummy was super rough and he was unfortunately slain. I have rolled up a mage that will hopefully continue the adventures. Overall the system is brutal but fun. I love the player facing rolls and the mechanics are fun. I got a copy of the bestiary and it does add some fun adventure hooks, new kin and monsters. The art is super inspiring and I have already gotten to use the monsters in another adventure.
